Young Dragons Project Launched

The Role Play Haven has partnered with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster City Council to launch our latest project, Young Dragons, which will start in September 2024. It is an after-school tabletop role-playing club aimed at children as an extracurricular activity.

After the successful launch of the Role Together project under The Role Play Haven in June 2018, aimed at building a community of tabletop role-playing clubs across the UK, we are proud to announce the launch of Young Dragons, starting in September 2024. This kids’ club is designed for schools and local libraries and aims to deliver a fun and safe gaming experience for young children.

Young Dragons is an after-school tabletop role-playing club aimed at children as an extracurricular activity. Our professional team, who we call “Games Masters,” runs games from Dungeons and Dragons, The One Ring, Pathfinder, and many more exciting adventures.

Each of our games has its own unique adventure explicitly tailored for the school, age range, and disability (SEN) requirements. All our Games Masters undergo additional and regular training and have a resource of equipment to help with visualisation and accessibility for the Young Dragons by using miniatures and custom maps to help bring their adventure alive.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster City Council to bring the joy, learning, and love of role-playing games to children and young people through our innovative new project, Young Dragons.”

“Young Dragons is a fantastic new project aimed at creating role-playing clubs for children and young people. We are thrilled to partner with Chelsea and Kensington to bring the joy, learning, and love of role-playing games to children and young people.”

—  David Coulter , Community Director The Role Play Haven CIC, Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist and Sensory Integration Practitioner

“there are so many benefits for children playing role playing games, including having fun whilst being creative and collaborative and enhancing their numeracy and literacy skills. This collaboration is very exciting.”

— Sarah Newman, Executive Director Children’s Services for RBKC and WCC.

Call to Arms!

We are planning to expand our team of GMs soon. If you are as passionate as we are about helping children and come from a professional background, such as a teacher or therapist, please send us a message. We will also provide training for less experienced GMs. Thank you.

Calling all companies in the tabletop industry! We’ve already received great support from the community, from amazing companies like Mantic Games who have provided us with many miniatures, but we still need a lot more for this ambitious project. We are seeking more help to provide our GMs with dice, maps, miniatures, and role-playing books designed for children aged 12 and above. Together, we can make a difference.

“We believe in the joy, learning and healing qualities of role-play and think they should be accessible to all” – Mission Statement for the Young Dragons.
