Metropolis – Vampire: The Masquerade

GM: Alessandro Iandolo       Metropolis Part I  A Chronicle for Vampire: The Masquerade   London, September 1998. A pint of lager costs £1.90, Tony Blair is the most popular politician in Britain, and Yahoo! is the hottest tech company in the world. As the Good Friday agreement is bringing peace to Northern Ireland, Geri Halliwell has declared war on the other Spice Girls. “Titanic” is still smashing every box office record, the Aerosmith’s “I don’t wanna miss a thing” is still number one in the UK charts, and the tabloid press is still debating David Beckham’s red card at the summer World Cup.   While the mortal world continues its senseless spin, the World of Darkness is jittery. The end of the second millennium approaches, and many creatures of the night fear it will bring the end of times. In London, the vampire community is unusually quiet. Many Elders have not been seen in public for weeks, and younger vampires whisper in secret about ominous signs and great evils to come.   Against this background, a group of neonate vampires has been assigned a seemingly mundane task by their Elders. Success will certify their full acceptance among London’s immortals. Failure is not an option.   The players will find themselves entangled in a centuries-old legend of betrayal and revenge. They will have to face ancient horrors and overcome the machinations of shrewd older vampires and dangerous mortals.   Metropolis is a three-part “homebrew” chronicle for Vampire: The Masquerade, set in an imaginary (and very inaccurate!) version of London in the late 1990s. It is based on the ruleset for the 20th Anniversary Edition of the game, with some elements imported from the 5th edition. Part I is designed with new players in mind, but veterans of the game are welcome. Between 3 and 5 players will choose a pre-generated character – all neonate vampires eager to leave their mark on London. They each belong to a specific vampiric Clan, with different powers, backgrounds, and objectives.   Vampire: The Masquerade is a rules-light, story-driven game of personal horror, political intrigue, and supernatural investigation. The chronicle offers a mix of challenges, which can be overcome with multiple approaches, ranging from brute force to mastering library skills. All playing styles are welcome.   The chronicle aims to create an inclusive and friendly environment, respectful of all players. The main plot touches on potentially controversial topics, such as politics, race, religion, and violence. Any element in the story can be modified or skipped to accommodate everyone’s sensibilities.
