The adventure is set a short distance from the city of Neverwinter in the Sword Coast region of the Forgotten Realms setting. No knowledge of the Forgotten Realms is needed to play. 

In the last 3-4 years, settlers from the cities of Neverwinter and Waterdeep have begun the hard work of reclaiming the ruins of Phandalin, following the orc horde invasion that swept thrrough the area and laid waste to the settlement over a century ago.

Your adventure begins in the mining town of Phandalin. It is a frontier town for you to explore. You may even find quests on the job board outside the Townmaster's Hall.
