Cardiff North Reopening

Cardiff North Branch of Role Play Haven re-opens to face to face gaming sessions on Wednesday 29th September 2021!

It’s been a tough year all around, but now that the social distancing restrictions are starting to lift, we have the opportunity to return to branch and get to that one great calling in life, the amazing world of Tabletop Roleplaying Games!

Players & GM’s, we would like to invite you all to join us around the table once more as we embark on our latest adventures and face seemingly insurmountable odds, armed only with our imagination, some dice and a handful of good intentions mixed with some bad character choices!

New Start, New Quarter, New Committee, Same Venue,

The 29th of September marks the beginning of Q4 of the gaming calendar and our first returning face to face events.

Not everything at The Role Play Haven: Cardiff North has remained the same, Ryan Mutton, our Branch Manager has stepped down from the branch committee, and our Games Co-Ordinator Tim Burke has stepped up and taken on the role of branch manager.

We would like to take an opportunity to thank Tim for stepping into the role to support us with branch reopening and building a fun, safe gaming venue for our members past, present and future.

Whether you are a veteran or are new to our branch we’re based at The Old Church Rooms on Park Road, Radyr.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the Chain room has been repurposed into office space so that the Old Church Rooms can keep their staff safe – and who can fault them for that?!

This does mean, that at least for the short term, we don’t have access to that room but we are working with the venue to source more space for TTRPG goodness- watch this space!

For those of you that need it for Satnavs and whatnot the branch address is The Old Church Rooms, Park Road, Radyr, Cardiff CF15 8DF. For those of you who use Public Transport to and from the venue as you know, it’s all up in the air at the moment, but you can find the latest updates by checking  here.

Our branch night continues to be Wednesday night and will be running from 6:30pm to 10:30pm BST/GMT and the venue will be locked up at the end of this period. This will mean that at a maximum play session will last 3.5 hours, with 15 minutes set up and clearing up respectively.

The Old Church Rooms provide a well-lit, heated, and ventilated space. There are toilets at the venue, but there is no food and drink served. Therefore, all adventurers will have to bring their own rations with them if they wish to avoid gaining a level of exhaustion during play. There are tables and seats available to use and a whole host of available resources to help you enjoy your RPH club night in comfort.

As I’m sure you can appreciate, each venue has its own rules and regulations regarding reducing the spread of Covid-19. This involves a lot of meetings, rules, risk assessments and random catch ups to ensure that all of our members and volunteers are kept safe whilst they game.

New Games

With the theme of ‘new’ being very much on the forefront of this announcement, RPH are seeking new games for GMs/DMs to run in Q4 to kick off this re-opening of face-to-face TTRPG goodness. In order to run a game at the RPH Cardiff: North Branch you must be able to achieve automatic success on the following abilities:

  • Can commit to attending all sessions for the quarter at The Old Church Rooms (Radyr) on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 10:30pm BST/GMT
  • Be a current member of Role Play Haven
  • Be familiar with (and agree to abide by) Role Play Haven’s codes of conduct, as well as any venue implemented regulations.

If you do indeed gain critical successes on all of the above abilities then congratulations, you can run a game at RPH Cardiff: North Branch!

To ask about registering a game please email Tim Burke, the RPH Cardiff: North Branch Manager, on:

tim.burke@rphaven.co.uk

Tim can also be reached on the RPH Discord channel or via our very own facebook group

Looking for inspiration for running a game? RPH is quite broad in scope in terms of games played. Everything from Fate to Dungeons and Dragons – 5th Edition is played by members and if you’re wanting to try out something new, there have been a number of truly fantastic releases in the world of TTRPGs over the past 18 months including:

  • Dune: Adventures in the Imperium
  • Warhammer Fantasy Role Play: 4th Edition
  • Star Trek Adventures – The Klingon Empire
  • D&D 5th Ed – Candlekeep Mysteries
  • D&D 5th Ed – Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything

To name but a mere sprinkling of what has been released. While it has been possible to run these games online, it’s never as good an experience as the face to face environment these games were designed to be played in. So if you want these games to be run as they were originally intended then get in touch with Tim and he can help you make it happen.
