Become a Volunteer

The Role Play Haven is run by a dedicated team of volunteers, who donate their time to fun, safe gaming. We couldn’t do what we do, without them. From running branches, helping at conventions, and creating some of our amazing game sessions; our volunteers are vital and they mean the world to us. They help us combine our favourite hobby with raising money for charities close to our hearts.

Our volunteers bring their skills and passion to The Role Play Haven through our Branch Committees (who run the local branches and organise amazing gaming) and our HQ volunteers (who support our branches)

Do you wish to lead your branch and help shape its future? Standing as a volunteer committee and making key decisions on how the branch is operated?

Do you feel passionate about gaming and charity? Well, there’s no better way to get involved than by volunteering. You’ll gain valuable skills that can carry through to your day to day job – and it’s a great way to get more involved with your branch and the Role Play Haven!

Financial Director

You will find me having fun roleplaying and GMing at the Archway Branch every Tuesday evening, where I have been a member for a number of years, a committee member for a couple and most recently the Branch Manager.

As the Regional Manager for London, my new role will see me supporting all the London Branches, acting as a sounding board and helping them grow, giving advice and helping to create an atmosphere for safe and friendly gaming.

I have been an avid gamer since a young age, playing most forms of gaming over the years - RPGs, MMORPGs, Boardgames, Play By Mail (still playing Middle Earth PBM), Tabletop Wargaming and BloodBowl.

The most recent systems I have GMed include: Tales from the Loop, Starfinder, Cthulhu and Aliens - quite a varied mix.

Get in touch if you want to talk about any of our London branches and how you can get involved. We're always looking to expand our membership.

You can find me easiest on Discord: Michael#7913, on Facebook or by using my rphaven email.

Regional Manager for Wales

Introducing Tim, our Wales Regional Manager at The Role Play Haven! Tim's journey into the world of tabletop role-playing games began in his mid-20s when a colleague invited him to a session at the Cardiff North Branch back in 2019. From that moment, he was hooked. Tim wasted no time immersing himself in the hobby, purchasing his first set of dice and eagerly signing up for his inaugural game that very evening.

Driven by his newfound passion, Tim quickly transitioned from player to game master, taking on the responsibility of running his own games. As his involvement deepened, he seized the opportunity to contribute further by joining the Branch Committee. Over the years, Tim has held various positions within the committee, gaining invaluable experience and insight into the inner workings of The Role Play Haven.

In 2024, Tim's dedication and leadership skills were recognised when he was appointed as The Role Play Haven's Welsh Regional Manager. With a firm belief in the positive impact of TTRPGs on mental health, Tim is committed to fostering inclusive and supportive environments for all players. He is also a passionate advocate for using gaming as a platform to raise funds for charitable causes.

In his role, Tim will be working closely with our Welsh branches, offering guidance and support to help them thrive and grow. Whether you're a seasoned player, aspiring game master, or enthusiastic volunteer, Tim invites you to join the RP Haven community. Reach out to him on Discord at @howdydee or via email at Tim.Burke@rphaven.co.uk to discover the exciting opportunities waiting for you in RP Haven's Welsh branches.

Regional Manager for London

I’ve been gaming since my early days. I got hooked on the Fighting Fantasy series, graduated to the D&D Basic Set aged 8, and never looked back. My latest obsession is Blood Bowl, besides which I run D&D, Cthulhu, Delta Green, and other systems, for RP Haven and various home campaigns.

I joined Archway Branch on its opening night in 2018. I volunteered as a Member Representative shortly after, and have worked as Games Coordinator for the past three years. It’s been a pleasure to serve on the committee and help the club grow into the wonderful community it is today.

In my new role as Regional Manager for London I’ll be assisting our London branches in expanding their membership, and providing welcoming, safe environments where people from all walks of life can enjoy this richly rewarding hobby.

If you’re interested in getting involved in any of our London clubs, whether as a player, GM or volunteer, please do get in touch. I can be reached on Discord at JoeR0852 or via email at joe@rphaven.co.uk

Bill Heron

Regional Manager for Scotland

A long-time resident of Edinburgh, Bill was instrumental in setting up the Edinburgh branch. Bill became a gamer at an early age after receiving Starship Traveller as a birthday present, the Fighting Fantasy book. Since then, he’s run more RPG campaigns than he can count, and created more worlds than he can remember for a variety of systems. There are several box-binders of his worlds, “just in case”. He’s a full-time IT Infrastructure Engineer and has been known to have free time when he’s not working with Edinburgh’s large gaming community as a GM or volunteer. Usually, this “free time” involves freelance writing for RPGs (he also edits, proof-reads, and indexes). He has a fondness for old-school D6 Star Wars and his work/games often involve the Cthulhu Mythos. You can find his work in the Achtung! Cthulhu range, Mutant Chronicles (3rd Ed.), Infinity RPG, and Musketeers vs. Cthulhu (plus others)! Bill is married, lives at the foot of the castle, and is ruled over by Missy the cat

Federica Bertello

Head Member Representative

Federica is a contract manager for a student travel tour operator, and, of course, a travel addict; Facebook tells her she has visited 45 countries so far, and hopefully many more will come soon! Originally from Italy, she made London her home in 2010.

A gamer in her free time, during her years of volunteering for the RP Haven, she has covered all the committee positions ( Member Rep in Stratford, Games Coordinator first and then Branch Manager in Archway).

Since 2019 she took a step back and is now just a general volunteer, whilst looking after Lorenzo, the youngest RPH volunteer ツ

Our Senior Volunteers support the RPH with key areas and help us create fun projects and branches to play in.

Volunteer Liaison Office

I've been an avid Wargamer since the age of 10 where a friend and I visited the local Games-Workshop and I’ve never looked back.

This led to a love affair with tabletop wargaming, tabletop role-playing and all things related. I’ve been a part of The Role Play Haven since 2018 as both a Member and a Volunteer and am always happy to help or answer any questions.

I am from Wales where I now split my time between Cardiff and Ogmore Vale, the perfect GM Fuel for any Tabletop Roleplay Game.

My favourite system is Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, followed a close 2nd by The Rivers of London RPG and I seem to be a Forever GM for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.

I am originally from Cyprus and came to the UK to study in 2006 and have been here ever since :). My background is in biology with a specific interest in bats and reptiles. I have a mix husky/hound puppy named Taran that keeps me active by wanting to go on walks all the time.

An avid fan of everything Marvel, anime and Japan in general. Usually, you can find me exploring different MMO RPGs and currently lost in the world of Final Fantasy 14.

I have been a fan of RPGs since I first played and spent hours in Baldur's gate and Neverwinter Nights on my pc, many many years ago. I have always been fascinated by the world of D&D so last year when the world started to emerge back to life, I tried a one-shot at an RP Haven event and got hooked.

A year later, and with various dead characters after, I wanted to get a bit more involved and when the position of finance volunteer came up, as my current job is in that area, I have decided to help out.

An accountant by day and a Moon Druid by night. I'm an avid DnDer since joining the RPHaven around 2 years ago.

I was a total TTRPG newbie and the worldwide lockdown prompted me to seek out a friendly bunch of online players and the RPHaven provided! I'm now part of a long-standing group of chaos goblins, rolling dice at Cardiff Central every Sunday evening and have helped out as Members Rep for the last 12 months.

I could not have stumbled across a better bunch and I look forward to rolling dice with more of you

Graphic Designer

Josh is a professional graphic designer ( www.joshuarousen.com ) with a background in brand identity, UX research, and photography, and has worked in these areas for over a decade. He is passionate about accessibility and inclusivity in design, and can be found reading about those subjects when not focussed on taking care of his myriad plants or fish, digital painting, doing woodwork, painting minis, or generally nerding out about something.

Though a recent newcomer to D&D, he loves creating stories and complex characters.

Josh joined RPH soon after joining the Cardiff North club; felt the community was splendid and wanted to give back.

By day Jen works at Shoreditch Town Hall as Marketing Officer - it’s not actually a town hall, no matter how many times she tells people she doesn’t work for the council, but actually and arts and community venue. By night she loves to play RPGs with the lifelong friends she has made at RPHaven, board games (in particular Blood on the Clocktower, which she runs online), and loves to go to the theatre.

Jen can be reached on discord #jenbee, or more frequently on her instagram @jennitolhurst. She’d love to hear from you, especially if you have any social media content to propose!
